Danish family life
Most exchange students find Danes very relaxed and easygoing. Danes also tend to be rather sarcastic and very fond of irony so don’t get offended. Your sense of humour will be greatly appreciated.
You will find most Danish host families fairly relaxed about house rules and curfews because they expect you to be a responsible person who will make sensible decisions. They may say that you can decide for yourself what time to be back in the evening which means that they expect you to be able to behave as an adult and be back in time to get enough sleep before getting up for school. On weekdays Danish teenagers rarely stay out later than 11 p.m. and they have to consider homework. Danish teenagers go out on weekends to private parties or to school parties.
As for house rules your host family may tell you that they don’t have any. But they will of course expect you to participate in household duties.
Even though life is very relaxed in Denmark you will still enjoy tremendous support from your host family as well as from you local STS representative. You will not be left to fend for yourself but be involved in your family's daily life and activities.
