
High School in Denmark
High School in Denmark is called “gymnasium” and includes three years of studies. After those three years the Danish students graduate with “studentereksamen”. The “gymnasium” is divided into two different sections – linguistics and mathematics/sciences.
As an exchange student you are very likely to be enrolled in the linguistic section and study subjects such as Biology, History, Arts, Music, Danish Literature and languages such as English, Latin, French and German or Spanish/Italian/Russian. You will have five or six compulsory subjects and you will be able to choose an additional two or three subjects.
Your schedule will vary from day to day. The school day usually starts at 8am and finishes no later than 4.30pm.
The school year starts early August. Major breaks are in October, two weeks around Christmas, Easter and the summer holiday from the end of June until early August.
