Finnish family life
Most families live in their own houses in the countryside or in spacious apartments in the cities. Parents are not very strict on curfews with their teenage children. However this freedom comes with responsibility and the parents trust their children to inform them about their plans and whereabouts. Families usually eat dinner and spend their evenings together at home. They also spend a lot of time outdoors.
Finnish cuisine is a world of its own. Many Finnish specialities are made of salmon, but they also eat a lot of meat and vegetables. Clean, natural food is very important to Finns and you will discover that most dishes are prepared of fresh ingredients.
Equality of treatment and esteem have been main features of Finnish life for generations, e.g. Finland was the first country in Europe to give women the right to vote in 1902. In most families both parents work and both take part in the household chores. Average number of children per family is 1 to 3.
