Most Finns love sports and outdoor activities, which vary from one season to the other.
In summer most of the city people head for the countryside to their summer cottage by the lake. Weekends and holidays are spent relaxing in the sauna, swimming and fishing.
Popular sports are cycling, jogging, water sports and the national game pesäpallo, which is the Finnish version of baseball.
Winter is the high season for sports. Cross-country and alpine skiing are possible almost everywhere in Finland. Fishing through ice or swimming in the ice cold water are becoming quite popular activities.
