Choose your area

1. The North. The North of France, at the crossroads of Europe, is the most populated area. This area includes many major cities such as Paris and its suburbs, Lille and its suburbs, Rouen, Orléans, Amiens, Reims… and also includes the two youngest regions of France : Ile de France and Nord-Pas de Calais. In these two regions, one third of the population is under 25! This area is very dynamic with a lot of industries and also has huge cereal fields in Picardie and Champagne-Ardennes which influence very much the gastronomy. The North is obviously deeply influenced by our capital city, Paris. Average temperature : January 05°C. July 20°C.

2. The West. This area has the longest coast. It offers an important cultural diversity with numerous castles along the Loire river, the Mont Saint Michel, the Celtic culture in Britanny, the D-day beaches in Normandy, the festivals in Bourges, Deauville and Angoulême… The main cities of this area are Caen, Rennes, Nantes, Tours, Poitiers, La Rochelle and Limoges. Average temperature : January 05°C. July 20°C.

3. The East. This a rea includes 4 major chains of mountains. The Vosges in Lorraine are old mountains with a lot of Christmas tree forests. The Jura offers hills and valleys close to Switzerland. The Massif Central has an amazing chains of ancient volcanoes. Last but not least, the Alps have the biggest skiing domain in the world! The gastronomy in this part of France is very famous with the specialties of Alsace, the Bourgogne dishes and wines, the Lyon’s famous tables and so on. The East of France is very much influenced by the neighbour countries : Luxemburg, Germany and Switzerland. Therefore the atmosphere is less latin than elsewhere in France. 4. The South. The French Riviera, Corsica, the gulf of the Lion in Languedoc, the Atlantic coast (the ideal place to surf) are very touristy regions. Nice, Marseille, Montpellier, Toulouse, Biarritz and Bordeaux are the main cities. From the vineyards of Bordeaux to the beaches of the Riviera via the rolling valleys of Toulouse, you will enjoy the scenery and weather of this area. Average temperature : January 10°C. July 30°C
