A very friendly country
- with socialising as the national activity
Besides visits to museums and outings to theatres, Germans like to join in active forms of recreation. Team sports, especially soccer, and fitness gym are very popular among younger and older people.
After school and after all homework is done, you will most likely spend time with your host family or friends. German youth often meet at each other’s homes and watch videos or just talk. They also go shopping, go to the movies or go to sports together.
Most activities and sports are offered through clubs (Verein). You will be able to join such clubs and this will be a good way for you to meet new friends outside school. As in many other European countries, soccer is the leading national sport and there are local clubs in most cities, towns and villages.
Germans are fond of socialising and spending time with their families and friends. However they also appreciate to spend time alone, listen to music, read a book or just relax in peace.
