
High School in Italy
High school in Italy is attended by students aged 15 to 19. It begins at the 9th grade and finishes at the 13th grade. As an exchange student you will most likely be placed in the 11th or 12th grade.
The school year is divided into two or three terms, depending on the area you live in. The students go to school six days a week, Monday to Saturday.
All students study Italian, History, Geography and Maths. Study options at Italian High Schools:
- Liceo Classico – Humanity and Arts
- Liceo Scientifico – Social sciences
- Liceo Artistico – Artistic studies
- Instituto Technico – Technical studies
- Instituto Professionale – Vocational studies
Most Italian students who are planning to go to the university choose either Humanity and Arts or Social sciences.
The school year runs from mid-September to mid-June. Classes usually end at 2pm, leaving the afternoon for homework.
