High School in Sweden
Swedish teenagers go to High School for three years from the age of 16. The school year is divided into two semesters with major breaks in summer, at Christmas and Easter. The students can choose among a number of different options for their studies. Most students who plan to attend university choose a major in economics, technology, natural or social sciences.
School usually begins at around 8 am and ends around 3 or 4 pm. The school week runs from Monday to Friday. Swedish teachers let the students take a large responsibility in their studies. The teaching is in an open form and discussions are encouraged. Teachers and students have a quite informal relationship.
The school year starts mid-August and ends early to mid-June.
