In the Netherlands family ties are strong and families are usually moderate in size. The majority has one or two children and it is common that both parents work.

Dutch people are very friendly and open-minded. They will be very happy to introduce you to their culture and to invite you to their outings and other activities.

The relationship between parents and children is usually very open and your host parents will give you quite a lot of freedom. However, communication is very important to Dutch parents and they will want to know about your whereabouts and plans.
